Meetings

Monthly Meetings

Open to all, members and non-members, regardless of experience and knowledge. No need to book, just turn up and enjoy.

Our meetings are relaxed and informal, usually starting with a talk or presentation, followed by time to chat and, if the sky is clear, observing together at the observatory.

They are held on the second Friday of every month at Great Ellingham Recreation Centre. The sessions commence at 7:30 pm, with the doors opening at 7:15 pm. The society administration usually lasts for five minutes, after which the speaker takes over, followed by questions and coffee, where members get a chance to catch up with each other. By 9 pm, most talks should be finished, and we will open the observatory to attendees if the weather permits.

There’s a £3.00 entrance fee (free for under-18s), but refreshments like tea, coffee, and biscuits are provided.

Please Contact Us with any questions about meetings.

Public Observing Nights

We organise free public observing nights at the Observatory on the last Friday of the month when it is dark enough. This usually excludes the months of May, June and July.

We have plenty of space on the patio and field for more telescopes. Please bring any new telescopes if you want advice or to test them.

Feel free to come and go as you please. Even though the event is planned for a few hours, we don’t expect you to stay the whole time. And if there are still people interested and around, we won’t close on time.

Member’s Observing Nights

Every Tuesday members meet at the Observatory, to use the telescopes, do maintenance and chat about astronomy (mostly). This is an informal group and does get cancelled during bad weather or for personal reasons. Please Contact Us if you are interested.

Visitor’s Nights

Throughout the year the Society welcomes visitors to the Observatory, for pre-arranged group visits. Please contact our Visitors Coordinator to arrange a group visit.
