Monthly Meetings
Open to all, members and non-members.
Meetings, usually featuring a speaker, are held on the second Friday of every month at Great Ellingham Recreation Centre. The sessions commence at 7:30 pm, with the doors opening at 7:15 pm. The society administration usually lasts for 5 minutes, after which the speaker takes over, followed by questions and coffee. By 9 pm, most talks should be finished, and we will open the observatory to attendees if the weather permits.
There’s a £3.00 entrance fee (free for under-18s), but refreshments like tea, coffee, and biscuits are provided.
Please contact Dan (chairman), Chris (editor), or Keith (membership) with any questions about meetings. Kindly provide a reasonable timeframe for a response.
Public Observing Nights
We organise free public observing nights at the Observatory on the last Friday of the month when it is dark enough. This usually excludes the months of May, June and July.
We have plenty of space on the patio and field for more telescopes. Please bring any new telescopes if you want advice or to test them.
Feel free to come and go as you please. Even though the event is planned for a few hours, we don’t expect you to stay the whole time. And if there are still people interested and around, we won’t close on time.
Member’s Observing Nights
Every Tuesday a few members meet at the Observatory, to use the telescopes, do maintenance and chat about astronomy (mostly). This is an informal group and does get cancelled during bad weather or for personal reasons. Please speak with Dan or Keith if you are interested.
Visitor’s Nights
Throughout the year the Society welcomes visitors to the Observatory, for pre-arranged group visits. Please speak with Mick to arrange a group visit.
