BAS will be holding star parties in the spring and autumn at Haw Wood Farm Caravan Park.
The site is just off the A12 at Hinton, about 5 miles ESE of Halesworth via the A144. An evaluation of the site was carried out by BAS members in October and it was found to be a very good dark sky site.
There is a small shop on-site which can be opened on request. Just ½ mile away is a Little Chef and a mile down the A12 towards Yoxford, there is a very good Londis minimarket, a café and petrol station. Both the Little Chef and the café do takeaways. There are toilets and showers on site.
The first Star Party will be held on 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, March 2012. The theme will be the Messier Marathon.
Pitches are £10 per person per night with hook-up and £7.50 without hook-up, children free. Free battery charging will be available.
The site is dog-friendly and well-behaved dogs are welcome; there are two dog walking areas on the site. See below re Seasonal Canine Illness.

OTHER ACTIVITES
For those that like to do something in the day there are many footpaths in Dunwich forest only minutes away. If you take the path through the reed beds you may be lucky enough to hear the bitterns booming. This path joins the long distance Coast Path and the Sandlings Walk.
Dunwich Beach is only 10 minutes away, and RSPB Minsmere and Westleton Heath are 15 minutes away. Also 15 minutes away, Walberswick and the Blythe Estuary offer river-side walks, or you can cross the bridge and walk to Southwold; on the way stop at the café for a cup of coffee and a home made fruit scone.
If there is sufficient interest it may be possible to arrange a professionally guided bird walk in the locality, for which there will be a small charge. Contact Tony Fox Carter if you would like to take part in this activity.
